Campaign for the prevention of COPD

- COPD is a condition characterised by chronic airflow obstruction with reduced maximum expiratory flow and lung emptying capacity.

- The onset of COPD is closely linked to smoking, therefore, it is a preventable disease.

- The Campaign for the Prevention of COPD aims to detect the presence of airflow obstruction. A spirometry test is performed on all workers at risk, taking part in the Ibermutuamur Prevention Company's Health Surveillance Program.

- Workers are classified according to assessed severity grades established by the GOLD 2006 which uses the values obtained via spirometry: FEV1 and the Tiffenau index (FEV1/FVC).

- This program's aim is to detect those individuals at risk or affected by this disorder and make appropriate recommendations for reducing risk factors.
